Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has submitted a delimitation draft to the government for approval. BBMP Special Commissioner Rangappa S. confirmed this on Thursday June 9, saying Palike Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta has submitted the draft to the Urban Development Department (UDD).

“The draft was previously sent to UDD, but it was sent back to us with requests for more clarity and in two languages: English and Kannada. The existing 198 wards were delimited based on the existing population enumerated according to the 2011 census,” he said.

It was after the Supreme Court set an eight-week deadline for the government to complete ward delimitation and reservation for Other Backward Classes, that the BBMP and the government started the process of delimitation (OBC).

The BBMP has received recommendations from MLA S. Raghu. According to available data, each ward’s population should not exceed 38,000 people, and no ward should be divided into two Assembly segments.

The draught will be reviewed, and people will have 15 days to file any complaints. Once everything is set, the State Election Commission can commence the election process. The exercise is being carried out to minimise misunderstandings and to guarantee that work is managed and executed efficiently.
