Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP’s) standing committee on ward-level works has decided to open Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira for public.

Speaking with media persons after inspecting the renovation of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira here on Wednesday, Bhadre Gowda B, chairman of the standing committee on ward-level works has said that he would discuss with BBMP Special Commissioner to issue an order for the re-opening of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira shortly.

Bhadre Gowda said the BBMP had spent around Rs 50 lakh for the renovation of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira but the quality of renovation work was not up to the mark. “I will write a letter to BBMP Commissioner to take action against BMBP engineers responsible for the sub-standard renovation work of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira,’’ Gowda said.

He said Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree had sent a proposal, to fix Rs 85,000 rent per month for Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira to the standing committee on finance and taxation. “The committee has approved Minister Umashree’s proposal. The BBMP will take measures to float tenders inviting bidders for the maintenance of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira within a week. I want the BBMP authorities concerned to take measures for this purpose,’’ he said. He directed the BBMP authorities to clear encroachment of footpath in front of Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira.

Empty liquor bottles

No BBMP engineer was present when the chairman of standing committee on ward-level works visited Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira. The chairman has to open the door himself to enter Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira. He found full of dust on the seats inside the auditorium and empty liquor bottles on the premises. “I want the BBMP authorities to ensure cleanliness on this premises by tomorrow,’’ he said.

The committee members also found the toilets in bad condition and heaps of garbage on the premises. The committee members have expressed displeasure over the bad condition of the premises.

No more protests in front of Town Hall

Bhadre Gowda, chairman, standing committee on ward-level works, said the BBMP had spent Rs 7 crore for the renovation of the Town Hall. “Till now, 55 protests were held in front of the Town Hall during this year. I want the BBMP authorities to prevent any organization staging a protest in front of the Town Hall since it will disrupt the smooth movement of vehicular traffic. The protests also will have an impact on the Town Hall structure,’’ he said.
