Belagavi: BJP MLA booked for violating Covid guidelines

Belagavi: The BJP MLA from Belagavi North Constituency Anil Benake, has been booked for allegedly violating Covid – 19 guidelines and the weekend curfew imposed by the State Government.

Following the incident, a case against Benake has been filed at the Camp Police Station in Belagavi. Though a weekend curfew was in place, he was said to have attended an event marking the coronation of Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaja as the Maratha emperor on January 16 at Dharmaveer Sambhaji Circle here.

According to sources, over 20 people had arrived for the event, none of them wore masks or maintained any social distance. The Camp Police Station filed a suo moto FIR under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act 2020 after this incident was trolled on social media.

Benake had recently attended the launching of a buffalo race as well as the valedictory celebration, both of which were held on the occasion of Makara Sankranti. Hundreds of people attended the event, which took place on January 14.
