Bengaluru: Officers from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) recently arrested five people for allegedly defrauding a 47-year-old Kalaburagi doctor of Rs. 1.2 Crore rupees. They had promised to get a seat for his son in a medical school, and when he sought his money back, they honey trapped him.

The accused are Nagaraj Siddanna Boroti (36) Mallikarjun Wali alias Om Prakash (38), both from Kalaburagi, and Madhu Shekar alias Madhu (28) Hameed (31) Basavaraju, from Bengaluru.

According to sources, Nagaraj borrowed more than Rs 1.7 lakh from the doctor and paid the medical college’s bill to buy the seat in February 2021. Nagaraj said that the doctor’s Rs 66 lakh was the first installment of his fee. However, he decided to use the cash for personal expenses rather than give it to the academy. The college’s admission was cancelled in mid-2021 due to a non-payment of the fee.

The doctor was assaulted by two men who arrived and claimed to be CCB officers while accusing him of engaging with sex workers. They requested Rs. 50 lakh from the doctor to settle without filing a lawsuit. The officer claims that the doctor turned over his property papers to obtain a loan of Rs. 50 lakh and give it to the men. Upparpet police investigated the doctor, who had lodged a lawsuit.
