Bengaluru: The State Government on Wednesday August 31 has decided to remove properties blocking rainwater flow. The move comes a day after several areas here were inundated as a result of heavy rain and breached lake bunds.
Speaking to mediapersons after a high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on flood situation, Revenue Minister R. Ashoka said, “Ten bottlenecks have been found by our Municipal Corporation officers. The demolition drive will begin in a few days. The officers had been instructed to be merciless in carrying out the drive without taking any phone calls.”
He further said that merciless removal of obstructions causing water stagnation is permitted by the Disaster Management Act.
“The lack of a proper drain by the developers caused waterlogging in many residential layouts. All such blocks will be taken down,” said CM Bommai.
He said that he will visit the flood-hit areas on Thursday.
