Bengaluru: Aiding terror activities, 7-year jail term to three

Bengaluru: Three accused who were reportedly linked to Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were given 7 years in prison and fines by a special NIA court on Monday November 28. The accused were arrested on charges of engaging in dacoity on the outskirts of the City to raise funds for terrorist activities.

According to sources, accused Nazeer Sheikh has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 48,000, Habibur Rehman, has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 49,000 and Mosraf Hossain has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 41,000. The main suspect in the 2014 Burdwan bombing case is Habibur Rahman, a former JMB member.

He was listed as one of the most wanted terrorists by the NIA. According to sources, the 12 accused arrived in Bengaluru in 2018 with plans to raise money for terrorist activities. They robbed two houses in Attibele and one each in KR Puram and Kottanur on the outskirts of the City.

Materials for making explosives were purchased using the robbery money. Habibur was detained in 2019 in a house near Chikkabanavara.
