Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has increased the Covid-19 test to reach the State Health Department’s target of 6,000 Covid tests daily.

Speaking to mediapersons, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said the BBMP has conducted 6,000 tests, exceeding the government’s target of at least 5,000 tests every day.

“There aren’t many cases, but we are still running further tests. We will increase testing if the number of cases rises,” he added.

In response to the question of whether the mask must be mandatory, he said, “We have not made it mandatory for anyone to wear masks outside, especially during New Year’s celebrations. On the other hand, we have raised awareness of the benefits.”

Dr. K V Thrilok Chandra, Special Commissioner for Health at the BBMP said that the target of 6,000 includes tracing primary and secondary contacts, people with a history of comorbid conditions, and cases of ILI and Sari.
