Bengaluru: A labourer died after a cement slab fell on him while laying an Underground Drainage (UGD) pipeline on Bhajana Mandira Road near Kumbalagodu in western Bengaluru on Saturday November 26.

Police said that Muniyappa, a 45-year-old labourer from the same village and a resident of Mulbagal taluk in Kolar district, survived the incident with only minor injuries, while Chalapathi (35), a resident of Venkatapura, died.

According to sources, both lived in a labour shed in Neelasandra.

The UGD pipeline was being laid when the tragedy happened. They kept the cement slabs on the road next to the pit after it was dug. A large cement slab fell into the pit and crushed the workers at 3.00 pm, informed the police.

Later, Kengeri Police shifted the body for a post-mortem that will be performed on Sunday.
