Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda brought up the contentious reservation issue five months before the 2023 Assembly elections, claiming that since the Vokkaliga community makes up at least 10 per cent to 12 per cent of the population, the State and Central governments must take the issue of a quota for the community into consideration.
“We are ready to take to the streets to ensure that our demand is met. The SC/ST reservation was recently increased by the State Government. This is not charity, it is our right,” said Gowda.
“I am from the ruling party, which stops me from saying everything in public, he remarked during a protest gathering at the Vokkaliga association office in Bengaluru. However, I promise I’ll bring it up,” he added.
He further said that in 2012, Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji fought to stop a member of the Vokkaliga community from stepping down as the CM.
Gowda asserted that the Kantharaj report has been distorted and that during the winter session of the Parliament, they will put pressure on the Union authorities about demands of the Vokkaliga people.”
