Bengaluru: The City Civil Court has imposed a temporary restriction order on the sale of the book Tipu Nija Kanasugalu authored by Addanda C. Cariappa, the Director of Mysuru Rangayana.

However, there is no restriction for staging the drama. The Court said that the play cannot be stopped.

The court order was followed by a petition from Former Bengaluru District Wakf Board President B. Rafiulla contended that the book is likely to threaten communal, peace and harmony.

The petitioner said that the book is full of lies and the author has not provided any documents for mentioned topics. After hearing the petition, the 15th Additional City Civil Judge J. R. Mendonca  delivered the judgement. Ayodhya Prakashan, which published the book, and Rashtrothana  Press, which printed the book, have been ordered not to distribute or sell the book.

Reacting to the Court order Rangayana Director and author Addanda Cariappa said to mediapersons that the court imposed restrictions for the sale of the book and no restriction for staging the play. The play will be staged at Rangayana as pre-scheduled.

Author Addanda Cariappa met Kannada and Culture Department Minister Sunil Kumar at his office in City on Wednesday  November 23 in the wake of the Court’s temporary ban on the sale of Tipu Nija Kanasugalu.

Cariappa said that “I have not received the notice prohibiting the sale of Tipu Nija Kanasugalu. According to the media reports, the Bengaluru City Civil Court has issued a temporary restraining order against the sale of the book Tipu Nija Kanasugalu written by me. We bow to the order of the court, he added.

“In this case, the complainant has made four persons as defendants. The defendant has made me (the author Addanda Cariappa), the publisher, the printers and fourthly the Director of Rangayana (Addanda Cariappa) who wrote the play. The court has restricted the sale of the book. The book has already been printed, and the second printing is also in progress. The restriction was made only with reference to the first three respondents. The court held that no direction has been given to the Director of Rangayana, the fourth respondent, and the theatre restriction does not come under our purview. So he made it clear that there is no problem in performing the play.”

He said the work of Rangayana is to conduct theatre activities and we would continue our work.
