Bengaluru: The State Government and the concerned authorities have been directed by the High Court to implement the Licensing and Regulation of Protests, Demonstrations and Protest Marches (Bengaluru City) Order, 2021, and take action against those who violate it.

The Karnataka Police Act orders restrict protests in the city to Freedom Park. The court brought the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on its own after massive traffic congestion in the city on March 2 of last year as a result of demonstrations and protests. Subsequently, the regulation orders were formed, and they include clauses that specify how violations will be handled.

According to a status report submitted to the HC, 27 FIRs have already been filed against those who have violated the orders.
