Bengaluru: Ex-Army officer shoots himself

Bengaluru: A 49-year-old former army personnel allegedly shot himself inside the DRDO premises in CV Raman Nagar, East Bengaluru.

According to sources, Karegowda was working at the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) unit of the Defence Research and Development Establishment as a pumphouse guard. He was a resident of Nagasandra, off Tumakuru Road (DRDO).

According to Baiyyappanahalli police, Karegowda shot two bullets from his service self-loading rifle (SLR) into his forehead at 6.30 am in the guard room. He died on the spot.

Karegowda returned from the army five years ago and then joined the DRDO. His family members said they were unaware of issues that prompted Karegowda to end his life.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death. Karegowda is survived by his wife and two children. Following the post-mortem, his body was handed over to the family.
