Bengaluru: The Transport Department held surprise check on private buses and imposed fine against over exorbitant fares in the City on Friday September 30.
Passengers have been complaining about private buses doubling fares during the festival and holiday season. The officials conducted check on many buses in varied parts of the City as 10 teams.
The Department held a meeting on Thursday September 29 to inform bus operators about the need to follow fare rules.
Surprise checks were conducted at Ananda Rao Circle, Majestic, Race Course Road, Kalasipalya, Mysore Road, Nagasandra, Madiwala and Hosur Road, Hoskote toll, Devanahalli toll and Doddaballapur Road.
Officials said, “Some have been charging double the normal fare during the festival season. During today’s inspection, we found many collecting exorbitant fares. We have imposed penalties.”
