A birthday celebration turned distressing for a family in Bengaluru after they lost 30 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2.3 lakh in cash to burglars. The valuables were stolen from the first floor of their house on Mangammanapalya Main Road in Madeena Nagar, while the family was celebrating on the ground floor.

The incident occurred at around 6:25 pm when two men parked their scooter outside the home of Akbar Shariff, a textile store owner, and attempted to enter multiple homes before selecting Shariff’s. Once inside, they gathered the valuables and exited, only to re-enter during a power cut, hoping to retrieve more items. This time, Shariff’s uncle noticed them and questioned their presence. The miscreants claimed they were looking for a person named Gopal and quickly left.

Discovery and police complaint

After the men left, Shariff’s wife soon discovered the gold missing, prompting the family to alert neighbors and search for the miscreants. Shariff then filed a complaint with the Bandepalya Police. He explained that he avoids keeping cash at his shop to prevent theft, but this incident proved that even his home wasn’t safe.

Similar incidents reported by neighbors

At the police station, three other local residents reported similar experiences, describing the miscreants’ method of entering homes under the pretense of searching for someone. Reviewing CCTV footage, Shariff saw the suspects carrying a backpack, presumably to store the stolen items. Police later discovered a discarded bag in a nearby park, reportedly from another recent burglary.

The police assured the community they are actively investigating and will bring the culprits to justice soon.
