Bengaluru:  The State Government on Saturday December 31 suspended four Revenue Officers who were in charge of election-related activities in Assembly constituencies where voter data theft was reported.

Chandrashekar (Mahadevapura), V. B. Bhimashankar (Chickpete), Suhail Ahmed, and Gultaz Fathima (Shivajinagar), four Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), were suspended by the Urban Development Department (UDD) in response to a letter from the BBMP.

The officers were suspended for violating the Representation of the People Act, which prohibits issuing identity cards to a private person or organisation for election-related activities. The action comes in response to the controversy surrounding NGO Chilume’s involvement in collecting voter information across several constituencies in the City.
