As the Gauri Ganesha festival approaches, Bengaluru is abuzz with activity as residents prepare for the celebrations with fervour. The city’s markets have been teeming with people on Wednesday, all eager to purchase idols, flowers, fruits, puja materials, and other essential items for the festival.
Compared to the Varamahalakshmi festival, there has been a noticeable shift in the pricing of various items. Flower prices have seen a reduction, while some vegetables have become more expensive. For instance, Kanakambar flowers are now priced at ₹3,000 per kg, a decrease from ₹4,000 during Varamahalakshmi. On the other hand, the prices of certain vegetables have risen. Peas are selling at ₹260 per kg, onions at ₹60, and green chillies and beans at ₹80 per kg.
The KR Market, a key hub for festival shopping, was heavily crowded, leading to significant traffic congestion on Chikkapet’s Avenue Road and nearby areas. Managing the traffic flow has posed a challenge for the local police, who are working to ensure smooth movement amidst the throng of shoppers.
Vegetable traders Akram and Sunil reported that the prices for most vegetables have remained stable despite the increased demand. In contrast, florists Shabbir and Suhas observed a drop in flower prices, which is a relief for many festival-goers.
Temporary stalls selling flowers, fruits, and Ganapati idols have appeared throughout the city, catering to the high demand. Various types of Gauri-Ganesha idols are available, and sales have been brisk since Wednesday. Women participating in the Gauri festival have been purchasing Gaja Gouri, Madigauri, and other Gouri idols in preparation for the celebrations.
The Gauri Ganesha festival, celebrated with much enthusiasm, involves elaborate preparations, including the purchase of festive essentials and arranging for puja rituals. The vibrant market scenes and the lively atmosphere reflect the city’s readiness for the festival, with residents eager to participate in the religious and cultural festivities.
As Bengaluru gears up for the Gauri Ganesha festival, the community’s energy and excitement are palpable. The city’s markets continue to bustle with activity as people prepare to celebrate this significant festival with joy and devotion.
