Bengaluru: A two-year-old baby girl died after falling into a pit dug by the Water Board to lay a pipeline in Byadarahalli.

The deceased has been identified as Karthik, son of Hanuman, a resident of Pipeline Road in Doddagollahatti.

Eight months ago, the water board had dug a pit near the pipeline road at Doddagollarahatti to install a water pipe. However, the lid was not closed. The pit was full of water. No barrier was erected for the safety of anyone from going near this pit. At around 9.30 am on Monday, Karthik’s father had gone out to collect money from a person called Hanuman Mestri. Karthik was playing in front of the house when he went out of the compound and fell into a pit opened by the water board on the pipeline road. However, no one noticed that the child had fallen. At 10.30 am, when Karthik was not found, his mother Hansa started searching everywhere. At that time, she noticed the child lying in a pit filled with water and called her husband and informed him.

When the father came and saw Kartik’s body floating in the water of the pit, the child was immediately brought out of the pit.

An FIR has been registered at Byadarahalli Police Station against the water board engineer and contractor. The Police said that they will investigate and take further action.
