Bengaluru: According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, the much-anticipated Kadalekai Parishe will begin on Monday November 29 in the City.
The three-day annual festival will be held in Basavanagudi to ensure that it does not become an epicentre for Covid-19 cases, informed BBMP Health officials.
“At the temple, we have deployed around 700 personnel, marshals, mobile testing and vaccination units. We will raise awareness, test and vaccinate people, and enforce Covid – 19 appropriate behaviour,” said Gaurav Gupta.
The Kadalekai Parishe welcomes the first yield of the groundnut crop grown this time in parts of the City, which is known as the groundnut festival. According to the tourism department, the celebration began in 1537 AD.
According to sources, farmers visit the Bull Temple every year to seek blessings for a good harvest. In the area surrounding the Bull Temple, the Dodda Ganesha Shrine, and the Bugle Rock Park in Basavanagudi, one of Bengaluru’s oldest suburbs, different varieties and qualities of groundnuts spring up.
Visitors buy groundnuts from farmers during Kadalekai Parishe, and a special pooja and prayers are held at the Bull Temple.
Meanwhile, traffic diversions in the Basavanagudi area will continue due to the fair and restriction will be in effect until December 1.
