Bengaluru: A law to provide electricity to all applicants without taking into account land laws will soon be introduced, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
Speaking at the 53rd Foundation Day of the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) here on Wednesday July 20, he said power supply was an essential service, making it a citizen’s right to get an electricity connection.
“Many people are building houses in slums and revenue sites, which often violates land laws. Many are denied access to electricity connections due to the violation,” he said.
He further said that to assure that all applicants will get an electricity connection. “Our government has decided to remove this system and introduce new laws. “I have spoken with the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) about this and have directed to issue an order in this regard as soon as possible,” he added.
CM Bommai noted that the government has given special emphasis to building the transmission and distribution infrastructure and added that actions will be taken to promote innovation and technological development in the areas of thermal, hydraulic, and renewable energy.
