Bengaluru Man Dies in Tragic Elevator Mishap at Commercial Building
In a distressing incident on Tuesday, a 50-year-old man, identified as Lakshaman Pramanik, lost his life after becoming trapped between the elevator door and shaft wall in a commercial building in Richmond Town, Bengaluru. Originally from West Bengal, Pramanik had lived and worked in Bengaluru for over 20 years, employed at a jewelry shop in the same building.
Around 12:30 p.m., as Pramanik attempted to enter the lift, its doors unexpectedly began to close, and the sensors malfunctioned. He became trapped, screaming for help, while a couple already inside the lift witnessed the incident helplessly. Within seconds, the elevator started ascending with Pramanik wedged between the doors, eventually jamming on the first floor.
Firefighters arrived on the scene nearly an hour later, assisting those trapped inside by supplying oxygen. Rescuers used gas-welding equipment to cut through the lift doors and extricate Pramanik, who was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival due to extensive injuries.
Pramanik leaves behind a wife and two children. The family has since lodged a complaint, prompting Ashok Nagar police to register a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
This tragic accident echoes a similar incident in Hyderabad, where a restaurant cook suffered severe injuries after an elevator crashed from the fourth to the first floor.
