Bengaluru: Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police has arrested a man for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from the house where a caretaker worked.
The arrested has been identified as Basavaraj Dayamanna Vaddara alias Basavaraj (34), a resident of Mundagoda Taluk in Karwar District. Rs 10 lakh was recovered from the accused. Four gold bangles with 42 grams of diamond, a gold necklace weighing 45 grams with a pearl dollar weighing 45 grams, a gold necklace weighing 20 grams, gold and diamond ornaments weighing 107 grams were seized.
Basavaraj, a native of Mannur Village in Hosaneralagi post in Savanur Taluk of Haveri District, had joined as a caretaker at the house of one P. N. Kulkarni in an apartment near Ideal Home in the City. The complainant was an elderly man.
The accused stole gold ornaments and diamond jewellery and then suddenly quit his job. A few days later, when the gold ornaments in the cupboard were checked, it came to light that the theft had taken place.
As the old man got suspicious, he lodged a complaint with the police.
