Bengaluru: Over 1.59 lakh Ganesha idols were immersed in specified places, such as lakes, kalyanis, and mobile immersion tankers on Wednesday September 31. According to Bruhat Bengaluru Manahagara Palike (BBMP), as many as 1,59,980 idols were submerged in the eight Palike zones.
Despite a ban on use of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols, 12,000 such idols were found in BBMP limits. However, the authorities made sure that these idols didn’t end up in waterbodies and had arrangements in place for their immersion.
In the South Zone, clay Ganesha idols were immersed. As many as 68,521 idols were immersed at Yediyur Lake and the immersion tankers nearby.
