Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said on Wednesday November 9 that the Revenue Officer and others involved in preparing voter draught lists have deleted 6,69,652 people from the Palike limits.
Speaking to mediapersons after the release of the Special Revision of Electoral Roll-2023, the draught Electoral Roll of Bengaluru City, Girinath said that 3,07,535 new names had been included and 57,517 corrections had been made by officials in the City. He claimed that the number of names deleted was highest in Bengaluru South (45,927) and lowest in Rajajinagar (12,575).
He also mentioned that there are 91,15,805 voters in the City’s 28 Assembly constituencies. There are 3.76 lakh less voters than on the voter list that was released in January 2021.
As many as 47,35,952 men, 43,79,853 women, and 925 other voters make up the 91,15,805 voters. According to Girinath, a month (up to December 8) has been allotted to raise objections if there are omissions in the draft voter list.
“Voters can check the list on the National Voter Service Portal and their VHA mobile app” (NVSP). The Returning Officer’s office, Electoral Registrar’s office, Assistant Registrar’s office, Ward office, and booth-level officials can submit objections in Forms 6, 7, and 8 if there are any errors, he said, adding that the final voter list will be made public on January 1, 2023.
He added that anyone who has completed the age of 17 may also ask to be added to the electoral roll. They will be added to the electoral roll after they turn 18 years old.
The Commissioner also said that a walkathon had been held in the City to raise public awareness. According to him, Bengaluru has a low proportion of voters in its population at the moment.
