Bengaluru: A 37-year-old passenger travelling from Bengaluru to Abu Dhabi was intercepted, and foreign currency worth Rs. 35.45 lakh was seized from him at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
The passenger Nainar Haja Hanifa allegedly tried to use Etihad Airways to smuggle $45,000 and 185 Dirhams in his baggage. He is a native of Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram. On September 14, Hanifa was seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and handed to the Air Intelligence Customs Unit.
International travellers are only permitted to carry a certain amount of foreign currency outside of India, which is usually $3,000 (about Rs. 2.4 lakh), with a few countries being the exceptions.
