Bengaluru: Police urged to act on women panel’s complaints

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed the police to register cases seven to eight hours after the Karnataka State Commission for Women files a complaint and to immediately begin their investigation within a day.

He was speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the State Commission for Women. “The State Government will take all necessary steps to strengthen the commission and appoint lawyers to handle its cases,” said Bommai.

“The government has launched various welfare programmes and is taking steps to provide 5 lakh women with employment opportunities,” he added.

He further said that the government has given Rs. 1 lakh to 7,500 stree shakti groups and increased the honorarium for Asha workers. He also mentioned that 7,500 AI-enabled CCTV cameras are being installed in Bengaluru as part of the Nirbhaya fund.
