Bengaluru: As the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme concludes on July 31, a staggering ₹831 crore in property tax remains unpaid by 2.87 lakh properties under the BBMP. Despite a collection campaign targeting taxes overdue for over two years, arrears persist.
In March, demand letters were sent to over four lakh property owners within city limits, urging them to settle their tax arrears. The OTS scheme offered relief by waiving interest and penalties, yet many owners did not respond.
Demand letters issued on April 1 targeted 3.95 lakh properties, totaling ₹733.71 crore. By July 29, only one lakh owners had paid, leaving ₹548.94 crore outstanding. Additionally, 16,904 properties with tax payment inaccuracies were advised on rescheduling, with ₹282.59 crore still due.
The BBMP plans to initiate foreclosure proceedings for unpaid taxes. Munish Maudgil, Special Commissioner at the Revenue Department, stated that information regarding possession rights and debt attachment processes will be sent to the concerned parties.
