Bengaluru: Several cracks have developed in the rapid road that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai inaugurated in December 2022.
The Old Madras Road in Indiranagar, which is 375 metres long and was constructed using ‘rapid road work’ technology, was inaugurated with civic officials’ assurances that it will last 40 years.
The rapid road project, which was implemented as a pilot basis, paved slabs of concrete that were seven inches thick, two feet long, and five feet broad as an alternative to the white-topping method (covering an existing road with a layer of portland cement concrete).
Speaking to mediapersons, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that they did not expect the cracks to develop. “Since it is a pilot project managed by a private partner, the BBMP has not yet spent any taxpayer money. We will look into the issue,” he said.
