Bengaluru: The State Government has saved Rs. 500 Crore by shifting its power from the Kudgi plant to Punjab, said Energy Minister V. Sunil Kumar on Saturday July 9.
Following the Central Government’s approval, he stated in a series of tweets that the transfer of power had been successfully completed over the past 20 days in under the National Resources Exchange Agreement Policy.
Energy Department transferred the power allocated to the State from Kudgi Power Plant to the State of Punjab, which resulted in savings of almost Rs. 500 Crore in fixed tariff, said Kumar.
He said thhat the Energy Department had written to the Centre requesting that it allow the State to exchange its share of power from the Kudgi Power Plant with other States since it had predicted that the power allocated to it from the plant would be redundant during the Karnataka monsoon.
He claimed that the State had to bear the expense of the fixed generation tariff unnecessarily because issues like this one were not a priority for the previous State Government.
