Bengaluru Rural: Though the price of animal feed is increasing day by day, the price of milk is unscientific. In this regard, an indefinite sit-in will be launched in front of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) animal feed unit at Rajanukunte on Saturday November 8 to demand hike in milk prices,” said Farmers Association President Kodihalli Chandrasekhar.

Speaking to mediapersons at a tourist hall in the City, he said that the price of animal feed has suddenly been increased to Rs. 35,00 per tonne. Farmers are being exploited by not increasing the price of milk. There is a difference of Rs. 15 between the price of milk being sold by the union to consumers and the price of milk buying from farmers, he said.

He said that the farmers would not withdraw the sit-in until KMF officials discuss with the farmers and fixed a scientific price for milk. The milk union is unnecessarily spending crores of rupees on administrative management. However, it is not only the farmers who are being given a fair price, but are charging exorbitant amounts from the consumers. The Government is providing 50 per cent subsidy for starting goshalas. However, farmers do dairy farming without getting any subsidy from the Government and were not giving scientific price for milk too. He said a conspiracy has been launched to take away dairy farming as means of livelihood, which is the economic lifeline of the rural people, out of the hands of small holder farmers.

“Milk producers from five Districts under the Bengaluru Milk Federation will take part in the dharna on November 8 to demand an increase in milk prices,” he said.
