Bengaluru: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposal to bring Nandini and Amul together caused heartburn among the milk producers of the State.

Speaking at the Mega dairy inauguration at Mandya, Shah said that if Amul and Nandini work together, it will result in a milk revolution in the State. “Amul and Nandini together will work towards setting up a primary dairy in every village of Karnataka and in three years there will not be a single village in Karnataka without a primary dairy,” he said.

This statement has sent shockwaves among Kannadigas.

Citing the recent merger of Vijaya Bank with a Gujarat-based bank, they warned that if this proposal is accepted it may result in the merging of the Nandini brand with Amul.

Many expressed their anger over Shah’s proposal on Twitter and posted their comments using the hashtag #SaveNandini.

“We have good infra for Nandini milk. BJP is falling into own pit by this kind of nonsense statements,” alleged Ram Vairamudi on Twitter.

“Which data shows ppl of Bangalore moving for Heritage? Why do you think it’s OK with a merger? Nandini is a milk Cooperative of Karnataka, why merge with one of Gujarat? And this merger will not nurture our farmers or our people,” tweeted Maya, another activist.

Activist Shrinivasa Sanagappa stated that we will lose our brand. “Whenever I am seeing Nandini milk (Mumbai available) I proudly tell that the milk is from my home town. Slowly our identity is going into other hands. We will become slaves, like how we Banks in the Coastal region,” he added.
