Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday March 6 said that several reform measures are being taken to ensure efficiency in energy generation, and distribution to prevent losses and m strengthen the finances of the Energy Department.
He was speaking after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of office buildings in Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapura and Davanagere Districts. He said two separate committees have been formed to make the two institutions financially strong and reform measures are being taken as per the report. “ESCOMS are in debt despite being given an electricity subsidy of around Rs 16,000 Crore,” he noted.
In the last one-and-a-half years, Rs. 9,000 Crore has been given to the energy sector. Special grants have been given to ESCOM and Karnataka Power Corporation. During the summer season, Rs. 2,500 Crore was earned from maintenance and preparation of electricity, generation and storage of electricity and the sale of surplus power. Adequate service is being provided to all categories of electricity consumers including farmer, businessman, street vendor, he said and added a large number of transformers are being readied for the summer season.
