Bengaluru: A ‘Productivity Linked Bonus’ of Rs 56.28 crore was given to 32,358 railway employees in the South Western Railway (SWR) zone. They are among the country’s 11.27 lakh non-gazetted workers.
The official release stated that the bonus was paid to eligible non-gazetted staffers, and is equivalent to 78 days’ wages, said an official release. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs. 17,951 for 78 days.
It further added that “The payment would serve as an incentive and motivate a large number of railway employees, particularly those involved in the execution and operation of Railways, to improve their productivity and ensure safety, speed and service for its customers.”
The performance of passenger and goods services, which also helped the economy, was greatly influenced by railway employees. In the last three years, Railways has taken several actions to boost passenger fare realisation and regain market share in freight through appropriate policy initiatives.
Railways’ revenue momentum, which the pandemic had previously disrupted, has so resumed in 2022–2023. A total of 1,418 million tonnes of freight were loaded incrementally by the railways in FY 2021–22, which is a record high.
