An 18-year-old boy sustained serious eye injuries in Kammanahalli, Bengaluru, after a stray firecracker struck him during a neighborhood celebration on Monday night. The incident left him with internal bleeding in his eye, and he was taken to Minto Ophthalmic Hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources report that the teen, who was a bystander, was hit by a firecracker explosion close to his eye. While the blast caused bleeding, doctors confirmed that his retina remains intact. Currently, his vision is limited to seeing objects within a one-metre range. However, medical staff are optimistic about his recovery, expecting his vision to return to normal with continued treatment over the coming weeks.
“He’ll need regular follow-up visits to avoid complications like cataract,” a hospital doctor stated, adding that the treatment plan includes eye drops and oral medication. With festival activities still ongoing, doctors urge the public to exercise caution to prevent further firecracker-related injuries.
