Bengaluru: Keeping in mind the increasing cybercrime, economic offences and drug peddling cases, the city police has proposed setting up of eight dedicated Cyber, Economics, Narcotics (CEN) stations in the city.
City police commissioner N Sunil Kumar has sent a proposal in this regard to the state home department. Cases pertaining to missing children will also be investigated by these stations.
According to the sources in the state home department, the government has already accorded its approval for the proposal.
The proposed stations will function from eight zones of the city and concentrate on cracking the cases related to the economic offences, cybercrime and narcotics.
“Already special Cyber station is functioning. The CCB also has specialised wings for these crimes, but every day, on an average 10 to 30 cases are registered, because of this, the police are not able to crack the cases and arrest the accused. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to form eight specialised CEN stations. These stations will have specialised officers who are experts in dealing with these kinds of cases,” he said.
As expected the residents are happy. “Drug peddling cases are increasing. Ganja is available everywhere. Cybercriminals are cheating people. There was a need for such stations, but they should work closely with the police from neighbouring districts as these criminals are operating from remote areas,” says Giridhar Rao, a resident of Basavanagudi.
