Bengaluru: Two MLAs sentenced to jail

Bengaluru: Two BJP MLAs have been sentenced to jail by a people’s representative Court in separate cases. Nine persons, including Nehru Olekar, have been sentenced to two years in jail and fined Rs. 2,000 each on charges of nepotism by awarding contracts for Government works funded by MLAs to their sons.

Similarly, in eight separate cheque bounce cases, Mudigere MLA M. P. Kumaraswamy was sentenced to four years in jail by a Special Court for people’s representative.

Haveri MLA Nehru C. Olekar’s sons and contractors Manjunath Olekar and Devaraj Olekar, Retired Bureaucrats K. H. Rudrappa, Kalappa, Manjunath (deceased), Municipal SDC Shivakumar Puttaiah, Retired Officer Chandramohan, CMC Assistant Engineer Krishna Nayak and others were awarded Rs. 2,000 fine each.

A special court for people’s representatives has imposed a fine and a two-year simple imprisonment.
