Trusting her boyfriend’s promise of marriage, a 20-year-old woman from Bengaluru was Blackmailed and ended up losing ₹2.5 crore of her family’s wealth. The boyfriend exploited intimate videos to extort money, luxury items, and even a high-end vehicle.
The young woman, now 20, met Mohan Kumar during their boarding school days. Though they drifted apart, they reconnected years later and fell in love. Kumar later used these recordings to blackmail her, threatening to release them online unless she complied with his demands. Succumbing to fear, she discreetly withdrew ₹1.25 crore from her grandmother’s bank account and transferred it to his specified accounts. Over time, she handed him ₹1.32 crore in cash across multiple occasions.
The demands escalated, with Kumar coercing her into giving him expensive watches, jewelry, and even a luxury car. Additionally, he directed funds into his father’s bank account.
Unable to endure the harassment any longer, the woman mustered the courage to approach the police. Bengaluru Police swiftly arrested Kumar, describing the extortion as a meticulously planned scheme. Commissioner B Dayanand revealed that ₹80 lakh of the swindled amount has been recovered.
