Bengaluru: Women duped of Rs 10.3 lakh in name of electric bill

Bengaluru: A fraudulent case has been reported from here in which a woman lost Rs. 10.76 lakh to cyber fraudsters here.

According to the sources, Dr. Vani Prabhakar, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, received a message urging her to pay the electricity bill on July 7. The alleged scammer instructed Dr. Vani to download the Team Viewer app after calling the number. She downloaded the app as instructed and made the suggested payment of Rs. 100 for her electricity bill via the app. She noticed that Rs. 10.76 lakh was transferred to another account in a couple of minutes. Dr. Vani learned that she had been a victim of cyber fraud when she inquired with her bank.

Following this, she filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police, South Division.
