Bengaluru: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday promised to ensure justice for slain journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh and teenager Paresh Mesta if the BJP comes to power in the state.
At a rally in Bengaluru as part of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra in the state, Rajnath accused the Congress government under chief minister Siddaramaiah of letting the law and order situation slip out of the grip and alleged that the government was shielding the killers of Gauri and Paresh.
While Gauri was shot dead outside her home on September 5 in Bengaluru, Mesta, 19, had gone missing on December 6. His body was found near a lake in Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district, on the night of December 8 under mysterious circumstances and this resulted in unrest and communal violence in Uttara Kannada district.
“I want to assure the people of Karnataka that if there’s a BJP government in the state, we’ll probe these deaths from all angles and ensure justice to their families. We won’t shield anyone,” Rajnath said
Ever since the Congress came to power in the state, there has been spate of attacks on social activists in the state and Congress government have been unable to resolve any of these murders and apprehend the culprits, he said.
