Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced on Wednesday January 26 that the State Government will build a military school in the name of Sangolli Rayanna at a cost of Rs. 180 crore.

The State Government has already granted Rs. 55 crore for the purpose, and the construction work on the school will be concluded this year after garlanding a statue of Rayanna on his Remembrance Day, said CM. The Defence Ministry is in discussions to manage the school and convert it into a military school. CM Bommai said that a hostel and all necessary facilities will be built on 100 acres of land.

“The government is committed to keeping alive Rayanna’s ideals of patriotism, integrity and valour in the present society,” he said, adding that orders will be sent immediately to have Rayanna’s portrait displayed in all schools and universities.

“There is a statue of Kittur Rani Chennamma in New Delhi, and they have written to the relevant authorities to have Rayanna’s statue installed in a suitable location in the capital,” he added. Rayanna’s and Chennamma’s statues will be installed in front of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. CM Bommai also said that he has held two rounds of talks on the matter.
