Bengaluru: Narcotics Control Bureau on Saturday October 2 stated that they have busted a major drug syndicate involved in providing doorstep delivery of narcotics through executives of Swiggy, a leading online food ordering and delivery platform.
Seven people arrested also includes their kingpin.
According to reports, NCB’s Bengaluru Zonal Unit intercepted two City residents on September 30. The two were in the process of taking eight boxes of contraband from a courier vehicle and loading them into a Maruti car in the Karnataka capital. During examination, high-grade ganja, packed in paper packets wrapped with adhesive tapes, was found inside the boxes.
Official NCB release stated that Ganja weighing 137 kg was recovered.
According to reports, continued operations by the anti-natcotics agency resulted in the recovery of cash worth Rs. 4.81 lakh, which was the sale proceeds of drug trafficking, and packing materials used for retail packing of drugs. A Swiggy delivery boy, who was ready to deliver a parcel, was also apprehended by the sleuths. Further action resulted in the recovery of around 3 kg of Ganja and Rs 39,000 cash from the residential premises of another accused.
On a total, NCB has seized 140 kg of “high-grade” ganja, Rs 5.20 lakh cash, materials used for retail packing of drugs and two vehicles in connection with the case.
NCB nabbed four accused in Hyderabad which includes their suppliers on the night of October 1. Later, financial hand of the network and two other accused were apprehended near Shivamogga in Karnataka following a high-speed vehicle chase.
The kingpin, along with two of his two associates, was running the racket in Bengaluru and its outskirts which was thriving during the Covid lockdown period.
