Bengaluru: A Computer Science engineering student at Sambhram Institute of Technology in north Bengaluru died in an electrocution incident amid heavy rains during a cultural event on June 17.

Following the incident, the 22-year-old student’s mother filed a complaint with the Vidyaranyapuram police in north Bengaluru. They have initiated a case under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (causing death due to carelessness) against the college’s management and staffs.

Reena Sharma stated in her police complaint that her son Ashutosh, a BE Computer Science student at Sambhram Institute of Technology, had gone to the college festival on the evening of June 17. Heavy rains lashed the venue throughout the festival, and electric wires giving electricity to the event struck the youths between 7.50 and 8.00 pm.

Though Ashutosh was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but he was declared dead.

Reena has alleged that the management of the Sambhram Institute of Technology and the organisers of the cultural festival failed to take precautionary measures and were negligent, resulting in Ashutosh’s death.
