In a courageous act, a Bengaluru woman thwarted a sexual assault by an internet technician at her residence in north Bengaluru. The accused, Harish Babu, 25, was arrested after she filed a police complaint.
The woman, Sinchana (name changed), a former software professional, was at home with her child while her husband was at work. Facing a technical issue with her internet connection, she had contacted customer care, prompting Babu’s visit. After inspecting the router, he claimed the problem was due to a severed wire and stepped out briefly, stating he would handle the issue.
Upon returning, he announced the repair was done and requested her to verify the router. As she checked it in her bedroom, Babu approached her and attempted to hug her inappropriately. Stunned, Sinchana managed to push him away, slap him, and scream for help. Her cries alerted a neighbor, who came to her rescue, causing Babu to flee the scene.
The police apprehended Babu the following day. During questioning, he admitted to his actions. Officers confirmed he had visited her home on multiple occasions over the past six months for internet-related complaints.
Babu has been placed in judicial custody and charged under section 75(1)(i)(ii) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for sexual harassment. Authorities commended the woman’s quick thinking and bravery in a distressing situation.
