Booster dose coverage: K’taka stands fourth on Day 1

Bengaluru: The State had administered 81,728 booster doses on Monday January 10 as of 8.30 pm, placing it fourth in the country behind Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

With 5,281 healthcare employees, 2,463 frontline workers, and 3,931 people over 60 receiving the dose on day one, the BBMP topped the list in all three beneficiary categories.

However, in the BBMP limits on day one, 79,787 health care workers and 20,467 frontline workers (a total of 1,00,254) were estimated to be due for the booster dose.

According to the CoWIN portal, the booster dose will be given to 1,03,163 healthcare workers, 40,000 front-line staff, and 2,87,802 people over 60 years old (4,30,966 people) in BBMP limits in a staggered manner between January 10 and February 10.

On Monday January 10, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai launched the booster vaccination drive at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Centre. During the event, two healthcare workers, two frontline workers, and two people over 60 years old were the first to receive the Covid – 19 ‘precautionary’ booster dose.

“We are administering the vaccines to ensure that everyone is protected against Covid-19.  By January 31, we hope to have 100 per cent coverage of the first dose in Karnataka, and by February, we will have 100 per cent coverage of the second dose, ” said CM Bommai.
