Bengaluru: In a decision which is expected to create a flutter in the state administration, the state government cancelled the notification issued by the previous JDS-Congress coalition government to recruit 1,000 engineers to the Public Works Department (PWD).
The previous government had decided to appoint these engineers along with another 130 posts vacant in other departments through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), instead of the KPSC. A total number of engineers planned to hire was 1,000.
The KEA had conducted the examination in June 2019 for these posts, but with the fall of the government, the process was stalled.
It has been alleged that rules were violated to make these appointments. It was also alleged that the aim of the entire exercise was to accommodate the candidates close to the then PWD minister HD Revanna.
The recruitment notification was issued by bringing an amendment to the PWD recruitment rules by issuing a new set of rules. The state government wanted to fill up 570 assistant engineers and 300 junior engineers beside 130 other posts for various government departments.
According to the sources, a few Congress and BJP leaders convinced CM BS Yediyurappa to cancel the entire recruitment process by revealing the details of how former PWD minister HD Revanna influenced the hiring process. Based on these documents now the entire recruitment process has been cancelled.
“The state government wrote a letter to both PWD and the KPSC in this regard on November 27,” confirmed sources.
