Bengaluru: The race for the cabinet berth heated up both in the JDS and the Congress state units following the announcement by KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao that the state cabinet will be expanded within the next one month.
Speaking to the reporters, Dinesh informed that party state leaders are on a tour. JDS supremo HD Deve Gowda is also not in the city. “Once all reach Bengaluru, a meeting will be convened and the date for the cabinet expansion will be fixed,” he said.
“Six cabinet berths allocated for the Congress are vacant,” he added.
According to the party sources, both the JDS and the Congress have decided to fill the boards and corporations first, to ensure that they will not face the ire of the MLAs who miss the cabinet berth. “The posts like BDA chairperson is valued more than the cabinet minister. After filling up all the posts in the boards and the corporation, cabinet expansion will be taken up,” said Congress sources.
