Bengaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police fired at Rowdy Rajadorai in self-defence before nabbing him, when the latter attacked policemen attempting to apprehend him near Acharya College in Soladevanahalli village limits in the early hours of October 21.
Rajadorai, an accomplice of another notorious criminal Palani is involved in 18 cases of murder and robbery. The CCB police on the lookout arrested Rajadorai trying to flee to Tamil Nadu after committing crime in Bangalore. Police laid a trap to nab the accused after getting leads of his presence in Soladevanahalli area.
Police team lead by CCB ACP Mahadevappa planned an operation to arrest Rajadorai last night and zeroed on him. When they asked him to surrender, he attacked the police personnel with dagger in order to escape from the police dragnet.
In the melee, cop Narasimha Murthy suffered injuries in the hand and alert Inspector Prakash Rathod immediately shot Rajadorai. Police rushed a collapsed Rajadorai to Sapthagiri Hospital.
A case has been registered in the Soladevanahalli police station.
Rowdy elements have been quite active in the last few days and this is the second altercation between police and history-sheeters where police had to open fire in self-defence. In the previous incident, Inspector Subramanya had fired at criminal Karthik before apprehending him in a similar incident near the Gurudawara in Ulsoor Police Station limits.
City police off late have been taking stringent measures to crush history-sheeters to prevent them from taking the upper hand.
