Central team arrives to assess loss, damage due to rains in K’taka

Bengaluru: The State Government on Thursday December 16 has informed that a Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has arrived in the State to assess loss and damage caused due to floods and landslides as a result of heavy rainfall during October, and November.

The seven-member team led by Sushil Pal, Chief Controller of Accounts, Ministry of Home Affairs will split into three teams of two members each, and will conduct on-the-spot assessment of flood affected areas. The team is on a visit to State for three days between December 16 and 18. The team has visits to Tumakuru, Hassan, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Haveri, Chikkamagaluru, and Bengaluru Rural in its itinerary.

The overall estimated damage due to October-November rains stands at Rs. 11,916.30 crore and thus the Government has sought Rs 1,281 crore from the Centre as relief for damages as per SDRF norms.

From October 1 to November 21, the State has received over 85 percent more rainfall with 307 mm rains as against its normal 166 mm.
