Bengaluru: Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Saturday March 5 that the Centre is willing to help facilitate talks between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Mekedatu project across the Cauvery River. The Minister was in the city for the southern states’ conclave on the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ (Rural) Projects.
In response to a question whether the Centre would make the two states sit together regarding Mekedatu, he said, “We are in the process of doing that. I can’t assure you how long it will take as consensus has to be built.”
He further said, “Any problem can be solved by sitting together. I wish that all stakeholder states can come together and address the problem this year so that the new Mekedatu project can see the light of day.”
