CFAL records highest selection in district in KVPY Aptitude Test

Mangaluru: Mere weeks after 11 students from the Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) were selected to take part at the Karnataka Regional Mathematic Olympiad (KRMO-2017), 17 CFAL students have yet again made news by qualifying in the prestigious Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Aptitude test and have been selected for the final interview.

The students who have been selected for the interview are, from std. XI: Anish Hebbar, Ankush Moger, Anoop K. N, I.Vishnu Bharadwaj, Rajath Rao, Samarth Bhat, Shravan Singh Mehra, Shreyas V Pai, and Suraj Samaga, and from std. XII: Shreesha G Bhat, Navaneesha, Prathysh P, Sharaj K, Suraj S, Sourav V, Unnathi Nayak, and Rashmi Kasangeri.

Based on their performance in the written examination, students with the highest scores are called for the interview. Students who clear the interview are declared as “Kishore Vaigyani” and will be eligible for a National-level scholarship of Rs 80,000/- to 1,20,000/- per annum as fellowship, if they continue their education in basic sciences.

Fellowship details are as follows:
During the first three years of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Integrated M.Sc./M.S., the monthly fellowship is Rs 5,000 and the Annual Contingency Grant is Rs 20,000. During M.Sc. and the 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc./M.S., the monthly fellowship is Rs 7,000 and the Annual Contingency Grant is Rs 28,000.

Besides receiving a scholarship, these students are also entitled to several other benefits such as getting direct admission to institutions that specialise in basic sciences like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) etc. They can also attend study camps organised by various scientific institutions and attend lectures and workshops of renowned scientists. Besides this, an I.D card is provided to them which will give them access to various prestigious laboratories, libraries, and research institutes throughout the country.

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is one of the most prestigious examinations conducted in India. KVPY is initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The objective of this exam is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research, help them realize their academic potential, encourage them to take up research careers in Basic Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. These examinations require analytical skills and logical thinking; rote learning or memorization will not yield results. CFAL has a progressive record of nurturing Kishore Vaigyani Scholars year after year with the highest percentage of selections and ranks. CFAL students have consistently attained top ranks in Mangalore.
