Chikkaballapura: Polling for by-elections to several gram panchayats, which fell vacant due to various reasons, was held peacefully on Friday October 28.
The by-election was held smoothly under the leadership of Tahasildars of various Taluks of the District. In the elections announced for five Gram Panchayat seats in the District, the candidates of two constituencies have already been elected unopposed and a total of eight candidates are trying their luck in the remaining three constituencies.
Peresandra Gram Panchayat in Chikkaballapura the candidate was elected unopposed to one member seat and Pendlivarapalli 1 general seat, which was lying vacant in Bashettahalli Gram Panchayat of Shidlaghatta. Polling was held for one member seat of Paragodu Gram Panchayat SC reserved constituency in Bagepalli. Two candidates are in the fray. Similarly, elections were held for Ramaswamypalli 1 seat in Rashcheravu Gram Panchayat limits and two candidates are in the fray. Elections were held for the post of one member of the SC Reserved Constituency in Jangamakote Gram Panchayat in Shidlaghatta.
Of the 879 voters, including 431 men and 448 women, 693 voters, including 343 men and 350 women, exercised their franchise in Paragodu constituency of Paragodu Gram Panchayat in Bagepalli. A voter turnout of 78.84 per cent was recorded. Of the 486 voters, including 238 men and 248 women, 218 were men and 217 were women. A total of 89.51 per cent votes were cast. Of the 1,070 voters, including 553 men and 517 women, 919 voters, including 482 men and 437 women, exercised their franchise in the elections to the Jangamakote-5 seat in Jangamakote Gram Panchayat of Shidlaghatta. A voter turnout of 85.89 per cent was recorded.
